Little Pied Cormorant (Phalacrocorax melanoleucus)
The little pied cormorant is one of Australia’s most common water birds, and is the only long-tailed cormorant of its size to have pied plumage. As its name suggests, the pied cormorant is entirely black above and white below.
The little pied cormorant is a highly adaptable species, and can be found on both fresh and salt water. Crustaceans form a large part of the little pied cormorant’s diet, but this bird is also known to feed on seaweed and introduced fish species.
